One Strat to Rule Them All: Or Why I Hate People in Battlegrounds

Lately, I’ve started PVPing more with my Mage, Walkere. He used to be my main, but lobbing frostbolts at a boss for hours on end just isn’t as exciting as tanking. Running around and destroying other humans, on the other hand, is very satisfying.
So, he’s more or less been shelved in terms of raiding and turned into a PVP toon. I’ve spent some time in battlegrounds the last week or so, preparing to buy some Season 2 armor next week, and it reminded me of a crucial fact of PVP - everyone thinks they hold the one and only successful strat to winning a battleground.
In Arathi Basin the other day, someone said, “We only win if we hold the Blacksmith! Get the Blacksmith.”
Aye, that’s an intricate strategy. It’s also been proven wrong many times. I’m sure you’ve been in an Arathi Basin where you finally get the Blacksmith and then cling to it, watching wistfully as the Stables falls. You then usually proceed to get stomped to the ground in a quick, but painful, 5-cap.
Eye of the Storm is another great place to find these strategic masterminds. If ever your team should lose one of their towers, they yell at everyone in the middle: “Get out of the middle! We can’t win without towers!”
Thanks, John Madden. I never realized that towers were crucial to this game. I thought if I played with the flag long enough, we’d magically win.
The “Towers over Flag” strategy also ignores the fact that the flag is a great source of points - especially if you are currently losing. Repeatedly capping the flag will keep the game close until your team can re-cap one of the other towers and pull into the lead.
What should be painfully obvious about PVP - but these prima donnas never realize - is that there is no single best strategy. Winning a battleground relies on teamwork and reaction.
There are times that playing conservatively and holding three nodes in Arathi Basin will win you a game. There are other times that you will get trounced with conservative play and you would have been better served zerging the other team.
Oh, if only I had a pre-made to follow me around. Then I could be the strategist, and we’d win every game.

Bah! Unfortunately, the prima donnas are not going to be going anywhere soon. And with the addition of the pvp zone in WOTLICKEE, its probably only going to get worse.
/wishes he had a premade too
